Sinks
FAQs
What things do I need to consider when choosing a MIXA® sink? What things do I need to consider when choosing a Corian® sink? Can I use a waste disposal unit such as an Insinkerator® with all kitchen sinks? Do Axix sinks come with a warranty?Q:
What things do I need to consider when choosing a MIXA® sink?
- MIXA® sinks are special order and cancellation charges apply, special order sinks have a 4 – 6 week lead time.
- MIXA® Sinks are not guaranteed to colour match perfectly with a worktop of the same material and colour.
- The R60 MIXA® sinks are not available in all veined colours. Ask us for more information on the colours available.
- Veined colour sinks will contain random veins. Veins may vary in intensity and highlight seams. Seams inside the sink will be visible due to the aesthetic random texture.
Q:
What things do I need to consider when choosing a Corian® sink?
- DuPont/Corian® recommends that a stainless steel based sink is used when a boiling tap, such as Quooker® or Zip is being installed.
- You can use a Corian or similar cast bowl in a kitchen with a boiling water tap, but it is not recommended and any warranty for the sink would be invalid.
Q:
Can I use a waste disposal unit such as an Insinkerator® with all kitchen sinks?
- As long as waste disposal units are fitted in line with manufacturers guidelines and by a qualified person, the warranty on sinks is not affected.
Q:
Do Axix sinks come with a warranty?
- All Axix sinks have a 12 month warranty against joint faliure and manufacturing defects.
Hobs
FAQs
What do I need to be aware of when considering solid surface splashbacks near to gas hobs? Can I have flush mounted hobs in Corian® worktops? Can I use AGA’s and other range cookers with Corian® and other solid surfaces?Q:
What do I need to be aware of when considering solid surface splashbacks near to gas hobs?
- Gas hobs must be 100mm from the back of any worktop where a solid surface splashback is being placed.
- For induction/halogen electric hobs there must be a 50mm gap from the back edge of the appliance to any vertical splashbacks made from solid surface.
- If this isn’t achievable then this area behind the hob section would not be covered under warranty, although all other sections fabricated to guidelines are unaffected.
Q:
Can I have flush mounted hobs in Corian® worktops?
- Corian® and other solid surface is compatible with most flush mount hobs, but please advise on the make and model with us to confirm suitability.
Q:
Can I use AGA’s and other range cookers with Corian® and other solid surfaces?
- There is no ‘one answer fits all’ when it comes to range cookers, but the following is a rule of thumb provided by DuPont.
- Aga range cookers (especially those that are on constantly) must have an ‘air’ gap between the heated parts and solid surface.
- It recommends a gap between 6-8mm depending on the range type. For more information, please contact us, or refer to the manufactures installation and guidance notes.
Veined Aesthetics
FAQs
What considerations should be given when designing with veined aesthetics? Are there any issues with directional colours when considering Corian® worktops?Q:
What considerations should be given when designing with veined aesthetics?
- For more specific information regarding veined aesthetics, please see HERE
- In order that we can ensure designers and customers are aware of the design considerations, we ask customers to complete and Acknowledgement of Product Limitation document. A copy can be found downloaded here.
Download File - For a list of colours that are suitable for use in kitchens, which factors in other colour considerations, see HERE and look for colours that have a ‘K’ classification.
- If needed we can provide an example of coved upstands in a particular colour for consideration at the point of order.
- It may be important to see a larger sample of the chosen material for a clear understanding of the pattern and veining. Please ask.
Q:
Are there any issues with directional colours when considering Corian® worktops?
- Please be advised that although the joins would be seamless, they may be highlighted by the directional nature of the pigments and patterning within the material. See the section HERE.
General Information
FAQs
Can you give me more information on Corian®, Himacs and other solid surfaces in relation to its use in kitchen applications? How is Corian® solid surface manufactured, and how thick it it? Can you give me more information about DURAT as a product and its uses. Please can you tell me more information about PaperStone® and its uses.Q:
Can you give me more information on Corian®, Himacs and other solid surfaces in relation to its use in kitchen applications?
- Dark or heavily pigmented colours will show scratches, dust and ordinary wear and tear more readily than lighter textured colours.
- Certain translucent colours may differ in certain lights and when used for illumination purposes there are additional considerations and seams may be more visible.
- When using 12mm thickness for worktops, there are several issues to consider. All hob cut outs must have reinforcing blocks to the underside of the cut out for support, which means that cabinetry will need to be cut or amended to include for this additional depth, below the height of the cabinet surface.
- The maximum unsupported overhang for 12mm worktops is 150mm. For overhangs greater than this in 12mm worktops, steel will need to be rebated into the underside.
- On all worktops over 12mm and up to 30mm, we will price for support to be fabricated into the design. Various options, including cladding to the underside of the overhang can be discussed and priced for.
- The maximum unsupported overhang on 38mm worktops is 300mm.
- Overhangs exceeding 300mm will require additional support as needed, and can be discussed and priced at quoting.
- 19mm allows a 300mm overhang and will be polished to the underside.
Q:
How is Corian® solid surface manufactured, and how thick it it?
- Corian® is supplied in 12mm sheet form and is then sub framed with moisture resistant MDF to any design and thickness.
- Fascia thickness can be any depth, and worktop pricing up to 38mm thick is unchanged.
- For 24mm Corian® and other solid surface material worktops, there is a return to the underside of 50mm.
Q:
Can you give me more information about DURAT as a product and its uses.
- Any colour chosen, if not a DURAT UK stocked colour, will be on a 6-10 week lead time
- We can only order full sheets of DURAT and therefore have to pass on a material surcharge (at cost) for the remainder of the material required.
- DURAT Material sheet size is 2900 x 800mm and therefore there will be joins for projects where dimensions exceed these sizes.
- Whilst we use our best endeavours to minimise the appearance of the joins we ask that you ensure that your customer is aware of this. Please be advised that although the joins would be seamless they may be highlighted by the large speckled nature of the pigments within the material
Q:
Please can you tell me more information about PaperStone® and its uses.
- All joins will be a butt joins and not seamless
- Once oiled after installation worktops must be left for up to 24 hours prior to use to allow drying time.
- Conditions must be free of dust during installation and during drying period.
- Because of the nature of the material, being made from recycled paper, it is not possible for batch matching. Although the colour is the same, there can be shade difference between the sheets.
Bathrooms and Wet-rooms
Q:
Can you give me more information on Corian®, Himacs and other solid surfaces in relation to its use in bathroom and wet-room applications?
- It is advised that a minimum 18mm marine ply is clad to all areas (floors, walls and ceilings if required) plus any tanking requirements in order that the substrate is solid for adhesion and joint integrity.
- All floors must be flat and stable as movement could result in joint faliure.
- The edge of waste should be positioned at least 120mm away from any vertical area in the shower. This could be the tray wall, or if a flat tray design, the wall cladding.
- Traps designed for tiled floor applications are NOT recommended. Please consult with your plumber if unsure.
